Summary:
High-school lasts forever. Brandon Bartlett was the geek of the class and now the Science teacher of Parkview High. Jake Campbell was the jock of the class and now the Baseball coach. Both had nothing to do with each other when then were in the same class. But now after the Principal had forcibly "volunteered" Brandon to the Health class, they have to work together to get this year's team together.
Slowly they learn things about each other that the other one had assumed. Even the teachers have their own cliques. Jake and Brandon realize that only by breaking this clique, they would succeed in coaching and building friendship. What they don't count is falling for each other.
Opinion:
As you guys must have guessed, I am on a m/m romance spree and I am loving it!!
I very much enjoyed this story! I was amused how both Brandon and Jake felt attracted towards one other as soon as they were thrown in together but both were pretty sure the other is "as straight as it comes". There were so many things that they had assumed about each other. One of the sentences which actually gave me a pang was:
Jake laughed a little uncomfortably and nodded as he took the papers back. “Crosswords require a bit more knowledge than one through nine".
This one sentence showed me how inferior they felt infront of the other. Jake always thought that Brandon was the intelligent one and Brandon always felt that Jake was the stronger and more athletic one. Couple of baseball practice lessons actually changed the perception. LOL!
This was pretty straight forward story - no angst, no conflicts. The major conflict was the one where both of them were attracted to each other but didn't dare to make any move. The smaller conflicts were one ex-homecoming queen who wanted Jake oh-so-very-badly and to the point of hilarity; their respective schedules - work and coaching.
Another part that I enjoyed most in the book (like other books) were the secondary characters of Johnathan and Troy. I could easily imagine the shenanigans that they did. What I would have liked to see was a bit of the back story of how Jake and Brandon's life was during the high school years. If they ever thought about the other.
Easy read, well done romance, great side characters and humor made this book a very enjoyable read. For the sheer fact that this had happy ending AND a good romance (with wonderful intimate scenes) I would give this book a 4 star rating.
